And those were the good days.

Here are some pictures from steve's trip down to the bay area.

Fisherman's Wharf
Steve and I took a trip down to the city and being the delightful tourists that we were (steve hates looking touristy but I secretly almost enjoy it) we took the good ol' cable car down to Fisherman's Wharf. Cable cars are awesome, not only because they navigate those hilly streets of San Fran (no pollution to boot!), but also because the drivers are often the most entertaining people (plus, think of all the arm strength they'd need to pull on those brakes!). And then, off for some seafood and chocolate-loving at Fisherman's Wharf.

Hyde St. Pier with all the historic ships/view from Alioto's Restaurant at Fisherman's/the giant bread creations (crocodiles! lobsters! sea turtles!) at Boudin Bakery.

The San Francisco Chocolate Store @ Fisherman's Wharf
This is the most awesome chocolate&candy store I've seen around. There's jellybellies, icecream, lollipops, tons of chocolate, fudge, rice crispies marshmallow sticks and whatever you can think of.

Alcatraz
We took a stroll down to pier 33 to hop aboard the ferry to Alcatraz (cue images of Sean Connery and Nic Cage in The Rock). My only piece of advice to people going to Alcatraz is never EVER wear a skirt there because you will spend a good portion of your time holding on to your skirt ala Marilyn Monroe over subway grate although much LESS glamorous feeling in real life - I never thought that I'd like the non-windy insides of a cell block that much). But that aside, Alcatraz was very cool in my opinion and definitely a must-see that one (or more) touristy time.

I guess this is what steve the inmate would look like?/the hole - which is an isolation cell which goes completely dark when the doors are closed, creepy/the cell blocks.

Other random shots in San Francisco:

sunset :)/ Union Square (where the departmental stores are ginormous)/us randomly on powell street.

Dinner at Out the Door (Westfield) - yummy fusion organic foods.

The awesome walls of the restaurant (that's actual honey from different parts of the world in each panel)/we are happy to eat (and rest our feet).

Random shopping day out
And yes, we had to spend some time shopping, just because the stores are humongous and it would just be a great injustice to not at least spend one day looking around at pretty things.

1. Brunch at Le Bateau Ivre, a cosy caferestaurant in a lovely converted home in Berkeley, right near my apartment and lovelylovelylovely (their waffles are heavenly). After this, we took a walk around the Berkeley Flea Market, where I picked myself up some cheap aviators! (it really depends on your luck here, alot of it seems like a garage sale).

2. Wonderfully tasting (and so darn pretty) imported chocolates from CocoaBella in Westfield (favourites so far include the citrus caramel, jasmine tea and the cappucino - shaped like little cappucino cups!)

3. Lovely candle store Illuminations in Westfield. I think this is a great gift store (we got steve's family some candles from here), with scents like pumpkin pie, apple cider, pomegranate, chardonnay and even fresh air (!), there should be something for everyone! It smells pretty, it looks pretty, need I say more?

Dinner at Straits - the southeast asian inspired cuisine led to some interesting foods (that, if you come from a southeast asian country you will know are ridiculously overpriced). My chicken rendang came with coconut shavings, the crab cakes were indian inspired, the chicken pandan rice was lovely (but I am a sucker for chicken rice). But without a doubt, the warm chocolate lava cake was the best thing I've put in my mouth for a long time, it is just the right texture of cake mixed with just the right consistency of molten chocolate lava. I would go back just for the dessert alone :)

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)
I lovelovelove art museums and SFMOMA certainly didn't disappoint. Favourite current exhibitions include Olafur Eliasson's Take your time (with different interactive displays involving colour, water, mirrors, and light) and Anthony McCall's You and I, Horizontal (which projects 3D forms of solid light in a dark room).
